CAST AND CREW  |  LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR  |  ABOUT THE PRODUCTION  |  ABOUT THE MUSIC

Greetings, and welcome to the Southbounders website. I’ve been working on this movie for many years now, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to share it with people like you. This is a story about the Appalachian Trail, but it is also a story about self-discovery, and about choosing to follow your own path.

As someone who has hiked the AT, I know how protective thru-hikers can be of our Trail, and rightfully so. The modern world has encroached upon the wilderness to the point that logging roads bisect the trail in even the most “remote” locations, and heavy usage of the trail has resulted in harm to some of the shelters and surrounding environs. My greatest fear in making this movie was that it might in some way add to this problem. My intention was not to make a film that romanticized life in the woods, but one that truly captured how difficult primitive living can be. For those of you who have been on the Trail, either as a thru-hiker, section-hiker, yellow-blazer, day-hiker, slackpacker, or weekend hiker, I hope this movie does justice to your experience. If you have dreams of thru-hiking, I hope this movie gives you a sense of what you’re up against.

So enjoy looking around the site, learning more about our production, our talented cast and crew, and about the AT. Then swing by the gift shop on the way out and pick up your own copy of SOUTHBOUNDERS.

Thank you,
Ben “Sundown” Wagner
